Stop to pick up morning newspaper turns into $1M lotto win for Logan Lake man

A Logan Lake man got more than he bargained for when he stopped by the local Esso station earlier this month.

John M. just wanted to grab a morning newspaper, but he also remembered to check a Lotto Max ticket for the April 3 draw that he had purchased at the same store a few days earlier.

It turns out he had won a $1-million prize.

“I didn’t check the screen at first and asked for the win in fifties,” John recalled of the moment he learned of his win at the store counter.

“The clerk laughed and said he couldn’t pay it out. I wasn’t expecting this at all. I didn’t believe it and I’m still not sure I believe it!”

The first person John told of his life-changing win was his wife, who was as stunned over their good fortune as he was.

They ended up celebrating the windfall with loved ones over a family barbecue.

John called the feeling of becoming an instant millionaire “unbelievable” and “surreal,” and said he’ll be planning a few trips and potentially treating himself to a new car with the money.
