Beer column: The original is iconic, will the Dat Juice spinoffs be able to deliver?

If you’re a craft beer lover in British Columbia, there’s a great chance you’ve consumed your fair share of Dat Juice in recent years.

The iconic flagship beer from Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody is one that I’ve covered a couple times in the beer column before, although it’s never got its own spotlight.

The first time it was part of a National Beer Day feature on pale ales and the second time it was mentioned as part of the Twin Sails Signature Series Mixed Pack.

Dat Juice is an unfiltered pale ale brewed with large amounts of flaked and malted wheat then heavily dosed with Citra hops.

“It pours a cloudy pale straw colour with bright aromatics of grapefruit, pineapple and mango,” the brewery explains.

The reason Dat Juice is back in the conversation today is because Twin Sails just dropped a bomb earlier in April – that bomb is called the Dat Juice Juice Pack.

“They say you can’t fix what ain’t broke. But hey, you can still play around with it.”

That quote is how Twin Sails introduced the mixed pack that contains three brand new variations of the popular citra pale ale.

The grapefruit, pineapple and mango are no longer just part of the aromatics of Dat Juice, as these new variations cover all those bases in their own way.

Introducing: Dat Juice Mango & Pineapple, Dat Juice Tangerine and Dat Juice Grapefruit.

You should start to see this mixed pack pop up at private liquor stores around BC this spring and it certainly feels like a must try if you’re a fan of the original Dat Juice.
