Kamloops nurse suspended for making 'unsubstantiated' claim that patient became violent

A Kamloops nurse has been suspended and reprimanded after a disciplinary panel found her conduct fell below professional standards, the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives says.

In its decision, the college said Gabriella Lima, a licensed practical nurse, entered into a consent agreement with its Inquiry Committee over issues arising in March and April 2025.

Those issues included charting and filing a claim related to an alleged incident of patient violence that was unsubstantiated, as well as conducting an insufficient handover when leaving a facility due to an unexpected medical event.

The college said the conduct was unsatisfactory and breached several standards, including duty to provide care, professional responsibility and accountability, client-focused provision of service and ethical practice.

Under the agreement, Lima will be suspended from practice for two weeks and receive a public reprimand.

She must also complete remedial education in ethics, professionalism and duty to provide care.

The Inquiry Committee said it was satisfied the terms of the agreement would address the concerns and protect the public.
