“Team members hiked up to locate the subject, finding her very cold and unable to walk down,” a VSAR debrief explained.

Without much daylight left, and facing a narrow, treacherous and icy path with the patient on a stretcher, a decision was made to extract her by air.

The Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society helicopter was able to safely get the hiker off the cliff and deliver her directly to a waiting ambulance.

Meanwhile, VSAR members were left with a lengthy hike out of the area in the dark.

VSAR urges the public to be very cautious when hiking trails at this time of year, as “any shaded areas of the path can be very icy and slippery.”
