A Vancouver Police officer was in the right place at the right time to make an arrest on the Cambie Bridge over the weekend
Around 10:50 am on Saturday, the officer was conducting an unrelated investigation in the area when he witnessed a man allegedly punch a jogger on the bridge.
A VPD release says the man then attempted to assault a mother and her young child.
“Upon witnessing the assault, the officer activated his emergency lights and sirens to draw the suspect’s attention away from the victims,” noted the release.
The man attempted to flee, heading southbound off the bridge, but was arrested at West 2nd Avenue and Yukon Street.
North Vancouver resident William Sadler, 32, has been charged with two counts of assault, one count of uttering threats and one count of resisting a peace officer.
According to VPD, the suspect and victims were strangers to each other.
Sadler remains in custody at this time as he awaits a bail hearing.
