Man, 50, dies in scuba diving incident near BC park

A 50-year-old man has died following a scuba diving incident off Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver Sunday.

The West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) received a call of a scuba diver in distress off the park just before 1:30 p.m.

B.C. Emergency Health Services, the Canadian Coast Guard and West Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services were also on scene.

“Tragically, the 50-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene,” WVPD said in a press release.

Police said the man’s next of kin have been notified and his sudden death is not deemed to be suspicious.

“The West Vancouver Police Department extends our deepest condolences to this man’s family and friends,” the release said.

Police said anyone impacted by Sunday’s incident is encouraged to reach out to Victim Services by calling 604-925-7468 or at westvanpolice.ca.
