Motorcyclist, 40, dead after collision with semi-truck on BC Hwy 1

Mounties on Vancouver Island are investigating a fatal highway crash that happened early this morning.

Ladysmith RCMP were called to the scene on Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) at Timberlands Road, near the Nanaimo airport, around 4:40 am today.

According to police, the collision was between a motorcycle and semi-truck in the southbound lanes of Hwy 1.

Despite life-saving measures, the 40-year-old man riding the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

“An RCMP traffic reconstructionist attended the collision to assist with the investigation into the leading cause of the crash,” a news release explained.

The investigation remains ongoing, while the highway has reopened after a nearly four-hour closure.

Anyone with information about the fatal collision is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
