Early May heat breaks temperature records in BC

It’s the midway mark of spring, but the first weekend of May sure felt more like summer.

The thermometer was pushing 30°C all over the province on Saturday and it resulted in some daily temperature records being broken.

Two areas broke previous high marks set in 2016, while another two tied records that were also set a decade ago.

Environment Canada notes that the records shared Saturday night “may contain preliminary or unofficial information and does not constitute a complete or final report.”

If the data is updated on Sunday, NowMedia will edit this story to reflect those changes.

Here’s the full list of daily heat records broken on Saturday, May 2:

  • Nanaimo (27.2°C) – old record of 27°C set in 2016
  • Pemberton (29.9°C) – old record of 29.1°C set in 2016
  • Lillooet (29.6°C) – tied old record set in 2016
  • Whistler (25.7°C) – tied old record set in 2016
